My rating of this resource: *****

My experience using this resource:
Chemistry

Topic I was teaching:
Solutions

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
To have students understand the dissolving process of water and an ionic substance.

Course Level:
Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
Reviewed with students the attractive forces and then talked further about what would happen if water and an ion were to come in contact. This animation was shown to solidify a picture in their mind of just what happens. They also have access to this site for their own review. I might at some point have students view the animation before coming to class.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation

Strengths:
Very simple and shows the interaction between molecules and ions. Not hard to load. I would also consider using this for Honors biology as a way to get across the idea of hypertonic and hypotonic solutions.

Weaknesses:
Can't stop during the animation, though the animation itself will stop part way through.
