My rating of this resource: ****
My experience using this resource: physics
Topic I was teaching: projectile motion/free fall
My learning goal for which this resource was used: understand ideas on inertia (moving cart launches a ball vertically and the ball keeps up with it), effect of angle of range of a projectile
Course Level: Honors or Advanced, Intro or Regular
How I/my students used the resource: downloaded the video to use in logger pro which has video analysis tools with which we could collect data
Value Added: Provides visualization or animation, Increases graphing skills, Provides access to data sets, Increases data collection & analysis skills, Provides a virtual lab, Increases student engagement and motivation
Strengths: The web site is nice because it not only shows real life situations -- juggling, rollerblades, etc. -- but the videos are done with the video analysis idea in mind. The camera isn't moving around and there are rulers in the background. The videos are on a wide variety of phenomena from waves to electrostatics to mechanics. They are particularly useful for schools that are strapped for equipment. The experiments just need access to logger pro or other video analysis software. The videos are accompanied by handouts which give you suggestions for the questions to ask and connections to the learning cycle.
Weaknesses: not a lot of weaknesses -- you need to have the computing power in the classroom to get to use this one effectively
