My rating of this resource: *****

My experience using this resource:
Chemistry

Topic I was teaching:
Reactivity of alkali metals - Periodic Trends in Reactivity

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
To see that the reactivity of alkali metals increases as the principal quantum number increases.

Course Level:
Honors or Advanced

How I/my students used the resource:
We watched the clip and then discussed the reasons for the observed phenomena.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Provides a virtual lab

Strengths:
This is nice because it engages the students. I tend to not show many clips, so when I do they are interested. They saw that the reactivity increases, and are able to see reactions that I can not do in a class room.

Weaknesses:
The clip does not include any information on the actual reaction taking place, 2 X + 2 H2O --> 2 XOH + H2. And did not offer an explanation on why the reactivity changes.
