My rating of this resource: ****
My experience using this resource: Physics
Topic I was teaching: Refraction of light
My learning goal for which this resource was used: 1. To investigate refraction of light and the total internal reflection.2. To investigate how the object position and focal length of a converging lens affect the image produced.
Course Level: Intro or Regular
How I/my students used the resource: This web resource was assigned for the students' independent work, after they completed their main assignment - a virtual lab. By increasing the angle of incidence of light passing through glass to air, the students observed how the angle of refraction changed until the total internal reflection was obtained. On the same web page, the students could switch to the lens simulator, where they could explore (review)image formation by converging lenses. The students were not required to record any data because this resource was used as an end-of-lesson activity - for summarizing what the students learned during the class.
Value Added: Provides visualization or animation, Provides additional content, Increases student engagement and motivation
Strengths: The strength of this resource is that it allows to explore refraction of light from two perspectives: as light passes between two different mediums and as light is refracted by lenses to form images. Also, this web resourse provides suggestions for recording and analyzing data.
Weaknesses: None.
