My rating of this resource: *****
My experience using this resource: Chemistry
Topic I was teaching: States of MatterIntermolecular Forces *Gas Laws *Kinetic Molecular Theory
My learning goal for which this resource was used: To give students a visual picture of what is occuring at a molecular level. It also allows students to develop the gas laws from the quantitative information that it gives you.
Course Level: Honors or Advanced, Intro or Regular
How I/my students used the resource: Although you can buy a classroom set of this resource and work through different labs, I use it as a demonstration tool.
Value Added: Provides visualization or animation, Increases modeling skills, Increases data collection & analysis skills, Provides additional content, Increases student engagement and motivation
Strengths: This is the most powerful molecular modeling tool that I have encountered.-You can manipulate every condition and see how it changes the system. -You can quantitatively measure such things(for system and individual atoms/molecules) speed, avg speed, temperature, pressure, volume, etc. -Can rotate view 360 degrees to see the container. -Can place a trail on molecules to view their random path. -Students are constantly blown away by it and come up with tons of different ways to manipulate the system. And then try to predict the outcome.
Weaknesses: Non that I have come up with.
