My rating of this resource: ****

My experience using this resource:
Conceptual Physics

Topic I was teaching:
Waves (Resonance)

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
I wanted the students to have a good understanding of resonance.

Course Level:
Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
While lecturing at the SmartBoard (after doing a lab) we discussed resonance, then I played the video clip and talked over it. Afterwards we again discussed how it happened and what it had to do with waves. Students were very attentive to the video

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Increases student engagement and motivation

Strengths:
There are different compilations of the Tacoma Narrows on Youtube. Some have sound (music) some do not. Some are old-time news reels, some are not. You can tailor your approach to what might work best with the class. The Tacoma Narrows event is really very memorable and it is great to be able to have free access for all.

Weaknesses:
Students can be distracted by how awful/awesome it was and lose focus.
