My experience using this resource: Chemistry
Topic I was teaching: Anatomy of the Atom
My learning goal for which this resource was used: To have students preview information (mostly vocabulary) before class.
Course Level: Intro or Regular
How I/my students used the resource: I placed several of the video clips on my portal page As an assignment. Students were then able to tell me what they learned and asked questions. It saved time in class on subject matter most had been introduced to in previous classes. I have also used it to illicit questions about a concept.
Value Added: Provides visualization or animation, Provides practice or tutorial
Strengths: The idea of a video clip saves time viewing and setting up only the parts of a full video that I might want to share. I also like the idea of students being able to view these before class and have also used them as a type of video text book. I am also using them for the unit on periodicity. I have used a few for in class viewing to supliment what we have learned in class or reading.
Weaknesses: Always preview the clips, I have found some to be seriously in error about the information and sometimes not age appropriate. There are some areas not covered. I have to be sure students have more than one day to preview as some of them do not have computers that can view the videos at home and must use the computers in school.
