My rating of this resource: ****
My experience using this resource: AP Biology
Topic I was teaching: Biotechnology - Micro Arrays, DNA Sequencing, Analyzing Protiens, Northern Southern Blots, and Antibodies
My learning goal for which this resource was used: To be able to hear from student researchers about cutting edge science. The videos offer explanations/animations/lab simulations and are truly engaging!
Course Level: A.P.
How I/my students used the resource: To supplement class discussion, students view these on their own. These videos can support students' work on independent projects/presentations AND are great resources for teachers to use during class lecture/discussion
Value Added: Provides visualization or animation, Increases modeling skills, Provides a virtual lab, Increases access to scientists, Provides additional content, Increases student engagement and motivation
Strengths: If you log ontohttp://multimedia.mcb.harvard.edu/ you'll get a smaller screen of the "Inner Life of a Cell" video, but also get a wonderful link to some real (cool) scientists talking about their work on a MCB/HHMI Video Project Review regarding cutting edge: Micro Arrays, DNA Sequencing, Analyzing Protiens, Northern Southern Blots, and Antibodies
Weaknesses: The Harvard site mentioned above is fairly complex and appropriate for mostly AP students.
