My rating of this resource: ****

My experience using this resource:
Basic Genetics

Topic I was teaching:
Meiosis

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
My goal for this activity was to provide students with an opportunity to buffer their understanding of the process of meiosis and test their knowledge using an on-line quiz assessment tool.

Course Level:
Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
I developed a companion worksheet that directed students to the website. Students completed an online tutorial, answered items on the worksheet and questions posed within the online activity. An online quiz was utilized to assess the level of acquired knowledge and the ability to apply concepts and ideas to solve problems. Students were asked to print their online quiz and submit it along with their completed companion worksheet.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Increases modeling skills, Provides a virtual lab, Provides practice or tutorial, Provides additional content, Provides assessment opportunity, Increases student engagement and motivation

Strengths:
The resource is rich with quality educational content and provides clear and concise information for academic development in the subject area. Strong visual components and recurrent assessment items allow students to evaluate their own learning. The resource is well-organized and lends itself to utilization as an extra-scholastic (at home) learning tool.

Weaknesses:
The resource does not appear to offer companion worksheets to augment the online activity. However, creative teachers should be able to easily surmount this obstacle and utilize this resource as a tool for enhancing student knowledge acquisition and retention.
