My rating of this resource: ****

My experience using this resource:
General chemistry

Topic I was teaching:
Equilibrium

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
Teach students how to use the colorimeter and in doing so collect data that they could use to calculate the Equilibrium constant.

Course Level:
Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
As a lab. Data was used as a way to broaden their understanding of equilibrium constants.

Value Added:
Increases data collection & analysis skills, Provides assessment opportunity, Increases student engagement and motivation

Strengths:
Student were very comfortable with the instructions in the lab and with the working of the colorimeter. There was little to no introduction for them. Their motivation to "get it right" was very high.

Weaknesses:
Be careful with the water and computer mix. Make sure you have at least 60 min. to complete the lab if not more. Having them do a dry run of part of the lab may be wise. The calculations associated with the lab especially those of absorption were a bit much for the first year students but we were able to work it through together.
