My rating of this resource: *****

My experience using this resource:
Physics

Topic I was teaching:
Momentum and Energy

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
I wanted to have a fun activity; something a bit more inviting than just another day of problems.

Course Level:
Honors or Advanced

How I/my students used the resource:
I went to the site and found their "Movie Mini-lab" on Armageddon (http://intuitor.com/moviephysics/Analysis%20of%20Asteroid%20Split.pdf)

I printed it and also watched a clip from YouTube of the crucial movie scenes. Then we did the activity.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Provides access to data sets, Provides a virtual lab, Increases student engagement and motivation, shows that movies are silly

Strengths:
Students really like all media; they particularly like feeling smarter than those who are not "in the know." Debunking the physics in this movie is amusing and entertaining. The math is relatively easy and the results are pretty ludicrous.

Weaknesses:
The mini-lab is currently set up for only the most simple calculations; if you want students to do something more challenging you have to add it yourself.
