My rating of this resource: ****

My experience using this resource:
Biology

Topic I was teaching:
Enzyme structure and function

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
I wanted students to visualize how and enzymes catalyze reactions. The concept of substrate, active site, and conversion to products is much easier to understand with a visual model.

Course Level:
Honors or Advanced, Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
After taking about the basic terms we watched the animations and I asked the students to describe what they saw. This allowed them to explain to me the essence of an enzymatic reaction. After they had a sense of how the catalysis worked we then discussed the other parts of the animation especially how enzymes can be reused in a reaction and the effects of environment on enzyme reactions.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Increases student engagement and motivation

Strengths:
This animation provides good basic content. Students are able to watch how enzymes work with a very simple model. It is easy to use and by projecting the animation or by having students use it in small groups they can self teach the basic concepts of how enzyme work.

Weaknesses:
It is a very simple model. It does not show how the induced fit model works which is hard for students to understand.
