My rating of this resource: *****

My experience using this resource:
Evolution

Topic I was teaching:
Natural selection

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
I wanted students to have a more realistic model of evolution that they could manipulate.

Course Level:
A.P., Honors or Advanced, Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
Groups of two worked on a tablet laptop. They were given a logon name and password to get onto the biology labs-online website and access the correct lab. Students then completed several case studies that illustrated different scenarios on the islands.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Increases modeling skills, Provides access to data sets, Increases data collection & analysis skills, Provides a virtual lab, Provides practice or tutorial, Provides additional content, Increases student engagement and motivation

Strengths:
This lab is really engaging for students. It is easy to use, has good visual effects, produces data that can be analyzed in a number of ways. The case studies that come with the student manual are good, but you can also design your own activities for the model.

Weaknesses:
I used this lab primarily with AP Biology courses. When I used it with honors and regular 9th grade biology they needed more guidance with data intrepretation.
