My rating of this resource: ****

My experience using this resource:
Physics

Topic I was teaching:
Electricity

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
We are learning about Electrical Generators and trying to work in alternative energy sources. I wanted students to get an overview of how much energy the US used, and what forms it came in.

Course Level:
Honors or Advanced

How I/my students used the resource:
Some students actually found numbers for their specific type of energy generation. I copied certain graphs and charts about the US-wide distribution of different sources of electricity and energy.

Using this information (and the information they found in their own reports), they will be "planning" our energy future on their next test.

Value Added:
Provides visualization or animation, Provides access to data sets, Provides additional content

Strengths:
Data is comprehensive and excellent, presented in many different ways. If you are looking for an energy statistic, it is probably there. They also have statistics on carbon emissions, power plants with carbon scrubbers, other emissions... etc.

Weaknesses:
They have a "Kids" (educational) section which is insipid.
They give their statistics in the English and NOT the metric system (sigh.) BTU's abound.
