My rating of this resource: ***

My experience using this resource:
Biology

Topic I was teaching:
Current Events

My learning goal for which this resource was used:
To identify a current event as it relates to the current unit of study.

Course Level:
A.P., Honors or Advanced, Intro or Regular

How I/my students used the resource:
Students add to my "Biology Bulletin" one-page synopses of current events aritcles that they have read and summarized. They need to include a minimum of 3 graphics (not always part of the original article) and are printed in color. The "Biology Bulletin" is in a heavily traveled hallway - with the goal of providing the causal passer-by an opportunity to stay abreast of interesting current events that are especially relevant to the topics being studied in the Biology classes. This is an assignment that is given to select students each week so that everyone has an opportunity to contribute over the course of a unit. Students may also take the initiative to complete a summary on their own as an enrichment actiivty.

Value Added:
Increases access to scientists, Provides additional content

Strengths:
A guaranteed source of current events, understandably not always relevant to our current unit of study. Student use this site as a source of articles in addition to the newspapers and periodicals in the library.

Weaknesses:
Students may find the articles content too "heady" for their reading level.
