Description
of resource:
MDL Chime as an internet browser add-on that allows you to view and manipulate the three-dimensional structure of biomolecules. [Although it is a browser add-on, you do not need an active internet connection to use the program.] It allows for multiple ways to view the biomolecules (e.g., in the traditional ball-and-stick model, the more realistic spacefill, or the simplistic ribbon model which is great for looking at structure in large proteins) and allows you to spin and rotate the molecules. You can view any biomolecule that has had its crystal structure solved. This information is encoded in a file with a .pdb extension, which can be associated to open with Chime. Structure files can be downloaded from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (www.nlm.ncbi.gov), and can easily be found on the web.
